Vientiane Capital, 15th of October 2025 – Her Excellency Mrs. Bénédicte Deschamps, the French Ambassador to Lao PDR, conducted an official visit to IPL to review the institute’s operations, research activities, and ongoing scientific cooperation.
The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Guillaume de Kerdrel, First Counselor (Premier Conseiller), and Mr. Thomas Vallée, Cooperation Attaché of the French Embassy in Laos. The delegation was received by Dr. Philippe Buchy, Director General of IPL, along with the institute’s scientific leadership and department heads.
Discussions focused on the long-standing biomedical and public health collaboration between France and Laos. The meeting highlighted the critical role of French funding – provided through the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) – in supporting regional health security, outbreak surveillance, and scientific capacity building.
During the visit, the delegation toured IPL’s specialised research laboratories and met with local and international researchers to discuss ongoing projects in virology, entomology, and parasitology, emphasising the shared commitment to advancing public health outcomes in Laos.
